Monday 13 May

Stephanie Burton on 'Creating A Miniature Artwork for Pembrokeshire's Smallest Gallery!'

Barbara, Stephanie & Julian will be making a miniature art gallery, to be displayed in Newport over the summer, and potentially indoors over the winter if it survives!  The workshop will involve everyone creating a miniature artwork on canvas (and tiny easel) to feature in Pembrokeshire's smallest art gallery. A long standing mini exhibition!

Hopefully the mini gallery would act as an advert for the art group too, and even encourage other local artists to get involved. Mini canvasses and easels will be provided. Artists will need to bring their own oil or acrylic paints (oil pastels, paint pens, markers or collage materials would work too!) You might find a magnifying glass useful too!

 * Warm-ups *  A series of drawing exercises to literally warm up the muscles! We will make some large drawings, some small, some quick and some slow, using a variety of drawing tools.

* Blind contour drawings *  Very useful for 'getting into the zone', hand/eye coordination, and generating line and shape for further development.

* Mark making * Sheets of repeating and layered marks, using a variety of media.

* Oil pastel transfer technique * Using shapes generated by the Blind Contour Drawings made previously, to produce compositions to develop in sketchbooks.

For this workshop Kate provides large paper, marker pens, subjects for Blind Contour Drawings, oil pastels and graphite sticks. THERE IS A £2 CHARGE FOR THESE MATERIALS - CASH ON THE DAY PLEASE.

Monday 5 August

Phil Adler on 'Watercolour, Dry on Dry' 10.30am - 2.30pm (inc. 30 minute lunch break)

Phil says 'Watercolour 'dry on dry'. Half of my practice is watercolour work and I use it dry on dry but with a range of 'styles'. This workshop has a practical emphasis and we look at using the brush as something a little more than just a tool 'laying on paint'. Participants bring their own materials. Ideally we would be using an outside scene with preferably a distinctive architecture if the weather is OK. Lots of outdoor opportunities in Nevern. This is a 4 hour activity, finishing with a critique. Lunch break - please bring your own lunch and socialise, tea and coffee provided.
