Last meeting report: Workshop: 'Still Life Drawing & Painting' with club members

Today was a day to experiment with drawing and mixed media in our studies of still life. We had a variety of subjects, old pots and pans, vases of flowers from the Autumn gardens of members, teddy bears, “objets d’art” and squashes from the kitchen garden. It was hard to choose as everything was inviting. We chatted and laughed together in our informal group with great work produced. Thank you to everyone who brought items in for us to study.

Workshop: 'Christmas Willow' with Cassandra Lishman

Cassandra makes a welcome return, after a very successful and enjoyable workshop earlier in the year. This workshop has a maximum of 20 places and the group will be split, 10 people starting at 10.30am and the remainder at 11.30am. You will be able to choose a workshop start time by booking your place HERE

As an extended workshop, and due to the time required to make your Christmas Willow, you are advised to bring your own lunch! Refreshments will be provided as usual.

 

In this workshop you will be using multi-coloured fresh willow to make wreaths, mini-reindeer and Christmas Tree platters. All materials will be provided and there is a supplementary charge of £4 per member to cover the cost of the materials. See the booking form for more details.

Workshop: 'Willow Basketry' with Cassandra Lishman

All materials will be provided. You will be taking home a willow basket. There is a £4 supplementary charge for this workshop

Workshop: 'Abstracting the Landscape & Landscape Artist of the Year' with Clare Rose

Clare will give a short presentation about her experience on Landscape Artist of the Year, where she reached the semi-final, followed by a practical session on Landscapes, exploring tone, hue and colour.

Monday 1 March - 10.30am

Workshop: 'Picture Framing and Mounting' with Peter Taylor

Peter will show us how mounting and framing can both add value and make a picture more saleable. We will also explore ways of renovating old frames or those found in junk shops or car boot sales. A fascinating look at upcycling!

Monday 5 April - 10.30am

Workshop: 'The Raoul Speek Experience' with Raoul Speek

Studying pictures by Van Gogh churches, buildings and the street of Montmartre, the way he uses brushes and the marks he makes.  If the weather is fine we will sketch and work near the church at Nevern.  If participants can bring something to rest on it would be good.  If the weather is bad, windy or cold we will do this indoors.  There will also be a chance to print using wood block and other base materials on paper provided.  Each person will have a print to take home with them.  Raul will talk about different types of printing and demonstrate these.

Workshop: 'Two Novelty Books' with Carole King

Members will be making, and taking home, two books - a Turkish map fold book and simple fold out sketch book. This is likely to be a longer workshop and all materials will be provided. There is a £5 supplementary charge for this workshop.

We have been given permission to use the chapel so will be able to expand the exhibition this year.

Workshop: 'Still Life/Life Model' with club members 

Following our very successful social meeting, with still life, last year, we are repeating the workshop with the addition of some possible life models!  A light-hearted and fun workshop.

Workshop: 'Botanical Printing on Fabric' with Bev James

Bev returns with a follow-up to last year. This year members will be printing onto fabric. All materials will be provided. Please note that this is a longer workshop as materials will take time to dry. We will have a scheduled lunch break and you will need to bring your own lunch. Refreshments will be provided

Workshop: 'Painting in Oils' with Peter Taylor

Peter returns to give us an insight into working with oil paints. Suitable for beginners or those with more experience, wishing to add to their knowledge.  Sure to be challenging for those members who usually work in watercolour or acrylic.
